The Essential
Keith, on the banks of the River Isla, lies at the heart of a rich farming area. It is famous for its agricultural show and as the home of the Highlands' oldest distillery (1786) still in operation. John Ogilvie (1579-1615), Scotland's only recent saint (canonised in 1976), was born here. In summertime, the village is linked to Dufftown by a pretty steam train.
