Paisley
The Essential
The industrial town of Paisley, renowned for its shawls and thread manufacturing, now has a more varied industrial base, although thread production remains important. Paisley grew up around a 12C monastic establishment and boomed in the 18C thanks to linen manufacturing. It has since been "gobbled up" by the suburbs of Glasgow, of which it is now part.
