The Essential
Isca to the Romans, Caerleon or the "City of the Legions" in Welsh, was home to a large imperial legion (around 5 000 men) from AD75-300. Sights of interest include the enormous fortress baths, the Roman Legionary Museum, the amphitheatre, and the barracks grouped in pairs with verandas that overlook a central street. These are the only remaining Roman legionary barracks anywhere in Europe.
