Although located slightly away from its centre, the cathedral is the focal point of St David's, over which it has exerted its authority for fourteen centuries. Since a decree issued by Pope Callixtus II in the 12C, two pilgrimages to St David's are said to be the equivalent of one to Rome - a privilege shared only with Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Today, it is very popular with tourists, given its location at the westernmost point of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
