Laxey Wheel

This fine work from the Industrial era, the Lady Isabella, was built in 1854 and has become one of the emblems of the Isle. It overlooks Laxey Valley, which was a busy lead and silver mining area. The quantity of water required to turn this giant 22 m wheel is provided by a large canal network. A steep spiral staircase with 95 steps leads to the upper part of the tower that brings water to the wheel.
