The Essential
The Earl Bishop's building schemes are everywhere to be seen along this part of the Londonderry coast. From the imposing Bishop's Gate, a charming glen planted with flowers and shrubs (many donated by visitors) leads to the cliff edge. The house, rebuilt after a fire in 1851, is now a shadow of its former self, but the Mussenden Temple, perched on the clifftop, is a good indicator of the Earl Bishop's ambitious architectural plans.
