Castle Coole

Highly recommended
Situated by a lake, at the top of a gentle slope dotted with great beech and oak trees, this magnificent neo-Classical residence is probably the most beautiful in the country. It was completed in 1798, to plans drawn up by James Wyatt, for the Corry family, Counts of Belmore, before being bought by the state in 1951. Built and furnished with money being no object, it has been completely restored to its former splendour. Don't miss the library or the Oval Saloon with its refined plasterwork.
