Laid out around a fine round tower, the medieval ruins of Devenish Island have a romantic lakeside charm. Founded by St Molaise in the 6C, it was sacked by the Vikings and razed during the 12C, yet survived until the early 17C. Near the jetty are the vestiges of the Lower Church (Teampull Mór), established in the 12C and subsequently extended.
