Eyüp Complex

Interesting
The holy complex of Eyüp, which has benefited from a programme of restoration and maintenance, stands on the banks of the Golden Horn. The site honours Eyüp, the companion of the Prophet. The spectacle of popular fervour and the profusion of religious boutiques are perhaps more striking than the gigantic early 19C mosque that now stands here. If regulations allow, it is well worth casting a look at the vast prayer hall. In the cemetery, admire the tomb of Eyüp, the jewel of the site, before climbing the hill to the delightful Pierre Loti café, a place of literary pilgrimage in its own right.

Istanbul: refreshing refuge from the summer sun

Summer temperatures in Istanbul frequently hit the thirties (Celsius)! So, should you find yourself in former Constantinople at this time of the year, be it for business or pleasure, watch out for sunburn and heatstroke. Fortunately however, this huge metropolis is far from lacking in resources for anyone seeking a refreshing refuge from the fierce summer sun.
