Museum of Antiquities, Istanbul

Highly recommended
One of the richest collections of Antiquity in the world. Once past a monumental Roman statue of Bes, look out for thesarcophagus of Alexander the Great (4C BC), decorated with bas-reliefs and sculpture dating from Archaic, Persian, Greek and Pre-Roman periods, among which theephebe from Tralles . The collections also feature Anatolian civilisations, particularly Troy, from Prehistory, Syria, Palestine and Cyprus. A new wing (1991) is devoted to Istanbul and its region.
