Rüstem Pasa Mosque
Rüstem Pasa mosque, a treasure of Ottoman architecture, was designed by Sinan (1561) for Rüstem Pasha, Grand Vizir and son-in-law of Suleiman the Great. It is justly famous for its Iznik ceramics, the traditional blue tones of which are enriched here with red and turquoise. On the entrance portico, but above all on the mosque's interior, including the columns and the minbar, this ceramic decor features an abundance of floral and geometric motifs in an explosion of sophisticated shapes and colours almost unique in Istanbul.
