Museum of Antiquities, Istanbul
One of the richest collections of Antiquity in the world. Once past a monumental Roman statue of Bes, look out for the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great (4C BC), decorated with bas-reliefs and sculpture dating from Archaic, Persian, Greek and Pre-Roman periods, among which the ephebe from Tralles. The collections also feature Anatolian civilisations, particularly Troy, from Prehistory, Syria, Palestine and Cyprus. A new wing (1991) is devoted to Istanbul and its region.
