Safranbolu

Seemingly unchanged for centuries, Safranbolu was for many years off the tourist radar, although it has always been admired by enthusiasts of Ottoman architecture. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is starting to restore its 18C and 20C wooden houses, which make up one of the most attractive districts of traditional architecture in Turkey. The district is best viewed from Hidirlik Tepesi hill which, together with the bazaar, the mosques, the caravanserai and the town's bustling narrow streets combine to create a delightful image of historic Turkey.
