The Essential
The village of Göreme is situated amid a decor which sums up perfectly the incredible charm of Cappadocia: honeycomb cliffs and immaculate white valleys sculpted by erosion to create extraordinary fairy chimneys. Hospitable and enticing, Göreme is the site of a remarkable sanctuary: the troglodyte churches of its open-air museum. The village also boasts its own treasures: the Durmus Kadir basilica with its grandiose dimensions, sculpted in the rock in the 5C or 6C, and the 11C Yusuf Koç church, with its breathtaking frescoes painted in bright colours.
