Moncton

Moncton
The Essential
Standing on a bend of the Petitcodiac river, Moncton is famous for its tidal bore, which rushes up the river from Fundy bay. Named after Robert Monckton, the British colonel responsible for the capture of Fort Beauséjour, the city is generally considered the capital of Acadie, with its French-speaking university founded in 1963. Today, one-third of the population is French-speaking.
