Shelburne
The Essential
Interesting
This small waterfront town sits at the mouth of the Roseway River, which empties into elongated Shelburne Harbour. Founded by Loyalists in 1783, Shelburne was, in the 18C, although only briefly, one of the largest cities in North America. The expansion was short-lived, since many settlers moved elsewhere. A few 18C houses in the historic district around Dock Street nonetheless bear witness to this heritage.
