Italian architect Paolo Soleri showcases "arcology," which he defines as the integration of architecture and ecology in new urban habitats. A prototype has been under construction since 1970, an hour's drive north: Arcosanti will combine compact structure with large solar greenhouses to house 6,000 people on 25 acres. Cosanti's wind bells, cast of bronze or fired in ceramic kilns, hang everywhere and are sold in great numbers at a gift shop.
