El Capitan Theater

Interesting
Restored in 1991, the theater (1926, Morgan, Walls & Clements), now operated by The Walt Disney Company, features an ornate Churrigueresque facade. Originally presenting live shows, it was converted into a movie palace with the 1941 world premiere of Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. The East India-inspired interior, designed by G. Albert Lansburgh, sparkles with ornate grillwork and gold leaf. The theater hosts a busy schedule of first-run movie screenings, live performances, and world premieres.
