Old St Mary's Cathedral

This handsome red-brick edifice, wedged in between modern high-rises and Chinese-inspired pagodas, was built in 1854 with Chinese labor. Although it was gutted by fire, Old St Mary's Cathedral nonetheless survived the earthquake of 1906. The church is a popular lunchtime venue for concerts of classical music, that last around half an hour from 12.30pm (program on site and on the internet).
