Chautauqua Park

In the late 19C, the nationwide Chautauqua movement encouraged retreats to nurture body, mind and spirit. This park opened in 1898 with tent lodgings and two buildings that still stand-the Auditorium (site of the Colorado Music Festival) and Dining Room (a restaurant). Trails ascend from broad lawns into subalpine meadows beneath The Flatirons and the 33,000-acre Boulder Mountain Parks. Those who don't hike Flagstaff Mountain can drive a twisting byway from Baseline Road to numerous scenic overlooks.
