16th Street Mall
Extending southeast from the bus terminal to Civic Center Plaza, the tree-lined Mall was created in 1982. The route is flanked by office towers, street-level cafes and shops, and 11 fountains. Horse-drawn carriages and free shuttle buses are the only vehicles permitted. Highlights include the 1910 D & F Tower (at Arapahoe St.), a 325ft replica of the campanile of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy; and the 1891 Kittredge Building (at Glenarm Pl.), a handsome Romanesque Revival structure housing restaurants and offices. The Historic Paramount Theatre, built in 1929, has one of two operating dual-console pipe organs in the US (the other is at New York's Radio City Music Hall). The $100 million Denver Pavilions is Denver's newest shopping-dining-entertainment complex.
