Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Overlooking the calm blue waters of Biscayne Bay, this Italian Renaissance-style villa was James Deering's winter retreat. Its construction took 1 000 workers more than two years to complete. The rooms that are open to the public have features that showcase four major styles: Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and neo-Classical. Two floors surround a central courtyard, which is now roofed to protect the priceless art within, and more than 4ha of formal gardens lie to the mansion's south side.
