Old Idaho State Penitentiary

Interesting
The Idaho Territory was less than ten years old when the territorial prison was built east of Boise in 1870, and today it is just one of four territorial prisons still in existence. The facility started as a single cellhouse and was expanded into the complex of several distinctive buildings (surrounded by a high sandstone wall) that visitors see today. Convicts quarried the stone from the nearby ridges to build the prison, which was used until 1973.
