Albert F. Madlener House

An epochal 1902 work of Prairie school architect Hugh Garden, this mansion was built for a local brewer. Roman brick and coursed limestone create an austerity broken by the beauty of the entrance, framed by oversized Prairie-style urns and wonderfully intricate coursing and grillwork. The former mansion is home to the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, an architectural endowment.
