When to go
Here, the seasons are clear cut and spring, summer, fall and winter are all quite distinct. The best times to visit the city of Chicago are spring and the Indian summer in October, when it is mild and dry.
Otherwise, the weather is variable and, generally speaking, harsh.
In summer, for example, it can be stiflingly hot with frequent heavy bursts of rain and storms. All of which, however, doesn’t prevent the city from taking part in the festivals that are staged in the parks and along the shores of Lake Michigan. In mid-July, sample one of the local specialties at Taste of Chicago, the largest food festival in the United States.
Fall is often short and the cold quickly sets in as bitter winds whip in and out of the skyscrapers.
In wintertime, the snowfall can often be impressive and sometimes paralyze the entire city. If you are around in March, you will be able to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, which is particularly popular in this city and even the water of the Chicago River is dyed green!
