Plum Island - Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
The southern two-thirds of this island has been designated as a haven for waterfowl in the Atlantic Flyway. Opportunities for bird-watching abound (more than 350 species have been sighted), especially during the spring and fall migrations. The observation tower at Hellcat Swamp offers panoramas of the island's 4,662 acres of dunes, marshlands and oceanfront beach. Birding hikes are offered frequently.
