The Quadrangle

Four museums - Museum of Fine Arts, George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, Connecticut Valley Historical Museum and Springfield Science Museum - are grouped together on the Quadrangle bounded by Chestnut and State Streets. In the center of the action is the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, a series of bronzes of the beloved characters of Dr. Seuss's books. The statues were designed by sculptor Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, stepdaughter of Dr. Seuss. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, was born in Springfield in 1904.
