Columbia University

Recommended
Founded in 1754 by a charter from George II, King's College was first located in Lower Manhattan, where the original class of eight students met in the schoolhouse of Trinity Church. Then, in the wake of the Revolution, the school reopened as Columbia College. In 1897, after 40 years on Madison Avenue and East 49th Street, it moved to the present site to become the enormous university we know today.
