New York Historical Society

Founded in 1804 to preserve the heritage and history of the US, the New York Historical Society features a library and a museum. It showcases antique treasures, Hudson River School paintings, watercolours by John James Audubon, and various items relating to American culture. The building is also home to the Henry Luce Center for the Study of American Culture, where huge display cases exhibit nearly 40 000 objects of all sorts.
