New York Historical Society

Founded in 1804 to preserve the heritage and history of the US, the New-York Historical Society features a library, a museum and a bookshop. It showcases antique treasures, Hudson River School paintings, watercolors by John James Audubon, and various objects of Americana. The Henry Luce Center for the Study of American Culture on the fourth floor contains huge display cases brimming over with nearly 40,000 objects of all sorts.
