Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Recommended
Commissioned by Solomon R. Guggenheim and his wife Irene Rothschild, the building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to house the couple's collection of modern art. Inaugurated in 1959, the structure itself is a masterpiece with a spectacular main gallery encircled by the famous quarter-mile-long spiral ramp. The collections (now over 6,000 pieces) range from Impressionist, post-Impressionist and Modern masterpieces to minimalist, environmental and conceptual art.
