Dayton

Dayton
The Essential
Ohio's sixth-largest city sits on the floodplain of the Miami River, which fuelled its industry in the late 19C. Dayton's most famous native sons are Wilbur and Orville Wright, whose experiments at their bicycle-repair shop led to the first successful airplane flight in 1903. You can find out more about their discoveries at the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, and about aviation history at the National Museum of the US Air Force, just east of town.
