Leach Botanical Garden

Interesting
Botanists Lilla and John Leach started this natural garden beside Johnson Creek in the 1930s. Lilla Leach became world-famous as the discoverer of a small rhododendron-type plant named Kalmiopsis leachiana in her honor. The cottage-style Manor House, now a visitor center, provides a self-guided map of the nine-acre site. Surrounding the house, 1.5mi of mostly woodland trails lace through rock gardens, bog displays, Pacific Northwest woodland gardens and displays of southeastern US azaleas. Camellias, viburnums, wildflowers, ferns, bamboo and Lilla Leach's discoveries are among 1,500 different species and cultivars found here. A footbridge (open summers only) spans Johnson Creek and leads to a charming stone cottage.
