Oregon Maritime Museum

A handsome brick Italianate building dating from 1872 houses this compact, informative museum devoted to the maritime history of Portland. On display are historic photographs, nautical memorabilia and meticulously crafted models of the various ships that have sailed up and down the Willamette and Columbia rivers from the mid-19C to the present. The museum's largest exhibit, the Portlanda, is docked in the Willamette River across the street. Built in 1947 and in use until 1981, it is the last operational steam-powered sternwheeler tugboat in the country. On self-guided tours visitors can see the engine room, pilot's and captain's cabins and the pilothouse.
