Gunston Hall

Interesting
This magnificent Georgian residence reflects the style and essence of plantation life for Virginia's wealthy planters in the 18C. It was the home of George Mason (1725-1792), a respected thinker whose writings influenced the course of the War of Independence and the development of the young republic. The interior of the mansion is noteworthy for its sumptuous mid-18C carved wood panelling by craftsman William Buckland. The grounds feature historic outbuildings and lovely formal gardens.
