Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise
The Essential
Surfers Paradise was originally called Elston. In 1933, after the arrival of the first American and Hawaiian surfers, the town was renamed with this distinctly more glamorous name. A seaside resort dedicated to mass tourism, this largely fallen paradise has been turned into a hive of activity, with high-rise hotels, bars, casinos and souvenir shops. The presence of the Q1 Tower, the largest skyscraper in Australia, topping out at 322.5m, is noteworthy.
