You need look no further than Mauritius if you are in search of a seaside destination doubled with paradise.
However, before you relax on an idyllic beach, pay a visit to the capital, Port-Louis, which will give you a foretaste of the island's good-natured cosmopolitanism and also take the time to admire the lush green garden of Pamplemousses and the highly instructive Aventure du sucre Museum.
By now you can't wait to head to the north coast and its immense sheltered beaches, or to the east coast, more unspoiled and depicted by a string of sandy beaches and isolated creeks. Don't miss one of the island's most beautiful beaches, Belle Mare.
The western seaboard, closed to the south by the imposing morne Brabant, boasts a significant asset: its lagoon, ideal for water activities. You can go swimming and diving in Blue Bay marine park off the coast of Mahébourg, and surfing and observing the dolphins in the bay of Tamarin.
In the south, leave the coast and admire the hilly inland region, rich in pleasant excursion destinations and stunning views. On the way, take the time to get to know the local population, one of the most diverse in terms of ethnic groups and cultures and wholly representative of the island's endearing authentic character.
